Why you should worry

Many times, you'll hear people say that worrying about something is a waste of your energy. They'll point out that nothing comes from worrying so why waste your mental resources fretting over something that may or may not happen?

I tend to disagree. Some worry is actually productive and serves a good purpose. Some worry gets you to take an action in order to relieve yourself of your anxiety.

The next time you find yourself worrying about something, ask yourself if this particular worry is inspiring you to take some kind of action. If so, it's the good type of worry. It would behoove you to pay attention to it and do what you need to do.

If the worry has no purpose (for example, it's about something you could never possibly control) it's unproductive worry. This is the kind of worry you don't need to waste your time on. When you notice one of these worries popping up, imagine the worry, like an autumn leaf, falling to the ground where you will no longer need to pay attention to it.
